First off, let me clarify. We actually rode 29 miles to a warm showers farm near Jackson, LA, dried our tents which had been soaked by heavy dew, had an outdoor shower, locked up the bikes, dropped the trailer, and drove 2 hours to a hostel in New Orleans.
On the way to the farm, we crossed the mighty Mississippi, which was wide and muddy. Also saw some new wild flowers, which is always a treat.
The hostel is pretty grungy, but it's only for two nights, and the trolley to the French Quarter passes by the front door, so it's doable.
Once we got ourselves sorted at the hostel, a group of us headed to the Quarter, guided by Nicole who had spent a few months here, and was familiar with the area. After spending a couple of hours enjoying the atmosphere, and getting used to the idea of being able to wander the streets with a drink in hand while trying not to ogle at the goings-on around us, the group met at the Metropole Hotel for a fabulous dinner, hosted by one of our members and a friend from the city.
Tomorrow, I plan to catch the Easter Parade, and visit the Katrina Museum. After that, who knows, maybe just grab a spot in the sun and people watch. It's a nice break after riding for nine days.
