Not much to write home about today. Another chilly morning, another day of fighting headwinds, but at least the hills were gentle, the traffic light, and the shoulder smooth and wide.
The temp and winds are such that I'm having to wear my arm and leg warmers for most of the ride, seriously compromising my tan, which, I fear, will begin to fade away to nothing, leaving me with no visible proof of my journey. C'mon heat!
The storm Monday dumped prodigious amounts of rain, causing many creeks and streams to flood their banks, and leaving large roadside pools of standing water. This seems to have wakened the frog community, as we hear their croaks and chirps as we pass by. I've even spotted a couple of turtles sunning themselves on half-submerged logs.
Speaking of the animal kingdom, our road kill species have gone from the Texas deer, armadillo and rabbit, to Louisiana possum and skunk. These things take on a greater importance as one pedals down the road. Just sayin.
We're all looking forward to Easter in New Orleans. The plan is to have a short 30-mile ride Saturday morning, drop our bikes and gear at a "warm showers" farm, then drive to the hostel in NO. We'll have the rest of that day, all of Sunday, and Monday morning to enjoy the city before driving back to the farm to camp for the night. Could be the highlight of the trip.
