The streak is over. Drizzle overnight, mist in the morning, and an all-day ride in the clouds. Wet and cold, underdressed for the conditions, but it was a great ride. The was little traffic, the road, surprisingly, was smooth, little to no winds, and the silence was broken only by birdsong.
Three steep climbs, with corresponding downhills. Elevation climb over the day was 3415 ft, but we're camping only 500 ft higher than this morning. And now the clouds have disappeared, and the sun is drying the tent fly.
Because we had a kitchen this morning, Nicole whipped up sausages along with some delicious baked apple-cinnamon buns, using a recipe sent to her by her mother. Note to Nicole's mom: Keep 'em coming! With a proviso that some are to be used when it's my breakfast morning. A little tit for tat? ;)
We are now in Texas Hill Country, away from the desert, and into the greenery. More deer and wild turkeys than buzzards in evidence. It's interesting to be looking at a bird as a potential meal instead of vice versa.
We had a dinner guest tonight; Isabelle, another ACA leader whom I met on the 2011 Oregon Coastal Odyssey tour. She lives in the area, and makes it a point to visit each tour as it passes through. Surprisingly, she remembered me, mainly for the number of scrapes and band aids I had accumulated on that tour. That's another story.
David and I cooked tonight; pretty basic, pork chops with applesauce, mashed potatoes, raw veggies and dip, with apple and pecan pies for dessert. Well received by the group. Whew, another hurdle passed.
After breakfast comes lunch making.
