Day 9

Rest day. No miles. Bike didn't move.
Slept in, which for me means 6:00; had breakfast; did laundry; read.
Some of the group went to watch a Spring Training game between the San Francisco Giants and the LA Angels. I opted to hit the REI, which is an American upscale version of Mountain Equipment Co-op. Picked up a new water bottle, a skookum HydroFlask, since the Camelback Big Chill bottles do not work as advertised, and there's nothing worse than warm water when one needs to hydrate. Even worse is the taste of NUUN electrolyte tablets in warm water. Makes it almost worth getting dehydrated! ;)
Also bought some sunscreen. I couldn't figure out why I've been burning despite liberal applications of the lotion I had, until I checked and discovered the "best before" date was over two years ago. Oh well, better late than never.
And finally, I purchased a nylon rucksack that can be used on day trips, but which stuffs into its own pouch, and becomes the size of a tennis ball.
Then I walked home, which took two hours, so I did get some exercise.
The motel is near Arizona State University, so there are young people everywhere, on bikes, skateboards, and on foot. A vibrant part of town. The downside is that  the motel is also popular with visiting teams; a busload of young men pulled in this afternoon, and the noise level has risen significantly. Maybe they'll have a curfew the night before a game; I'll need my sleep before our ride tomorrow when we climb out of the desert and into the mountains.
Now it's off to dinner, some time with my book, and early to bed.
