Easy day today. Sunny and cool with a strong tailwind all the way to Surprise on the outskirts of Phoenix. Then a three-hour ride along the Arizona Canal bike path that took us through parts of Phoenix and Scottsdale, all the way to Tempe. Interestingly,it was almost a leisurely ride, mainly because there was no need to rush to put up the tent, etc. also, having a day off makes everything easier.
We'll pay for our downtime with three days of 80+ miles, as we head out of Arizona and into New Mexico. On the bright side, even though we'll be climbing over 5000 feet Tues to Friday, Sat is another rest day. On the downside, it's cold in them thar hills, with overnight temps close to freezing. Sometimes it feels that as the right hand giveth, the left hand taketh away.
Right now the focus is on rest, relaxation, and recovery.
