Day 11 - Wednesday, March 19

Globe, AZ to Safford, AZ - 81 miles - 636 miles total.

What a great day!
Although the temp was 46 when we got up at 6:00, once the sun cleared the surrounding hills, we soon warmed up. We weren't far down the road before the leg warmers, booties, arm warmers and jackets were shed and stored in the rack packs or panniers.
After the 20-mile mark, we had rolling hills, good shoulders, and little traffic. And, the creme de la creme, a reason to stop every 12-15 miles. A hot dog here, a lunch stop there, followed by a banana split just down the road. Napoleon stated that an army travels on its stomach; so does our tour. And I'm lovin' it!
On the downside, the flu seems to be working its way through the group. Paul, our leader, was the first hit on Sunday as we entered Tempe.  He was laid low for about 24 hours, but still isn't 100%. Today, Dena had to be picked up by the van shortly after we began our ride; she's now ensconced in a hotel. Then David went down at the 65-mile mark; motel for him also.
The rest of us are walking on eggshells wondering who, if anyone, is next. Fingers crossed I'm spared.
Tomorrow we climb again, this time to Buckhorn. It promises to be another long, strenuous day. Whee!

  1. Other than the flu, it seems to be an excellent adventure ride Murray. Great pics! See any snakes yet?
